Challenge

Two rounds of copyediting and reference formatting for Owning Our Futures: Approaches to Realize Community Action for Climate Change Adaptation in Uganda. This document details a national development agenda aimed at integrating community action into Uganda’s climate adaptation strategy. We had to prioritize clarity and consistency since the report serves as a foundation for policy and community action.

Approach

As a contractor for Briere Associates and regular service provider for the Uganda National Academy of Sciences (UNAS), Allie Boman collaborated closely with the study director to refine the report’s language, ensuring accessibility without compromising technical accuracy. She enjoyed applying scientific rigor to prose that reflects the nuance and colloquialism of Ugandan English. Allie also applied our team’s well-proven process for cross-checking citations and editing references.  

Result

The UNAS team had spent several months preparing the report’s content. Being able to hand it off for professional copyediting led to a much improved final product and freed up the team to move to other projects. The team expressed confidence and appreciation for Allie’s consistent work over the multiple reports she has completed for UNAS. We helped create a cohesive, well-structured document that supports Uganda’s climate adaptation initiatives.
