Challenge

As contractors for Briere Associates and regular service providers for the National Academies, our approach to workshop proceedings and similar reports is well established. We receive a firm deadline for each round from National Academies staff, along with style and terminology points. For the first round, we edit both the text and the references, noting issues and questions in comments. In the second round, we avoid any substantive changes and clean up errors introduced between rounds.

For the first round on this project, Allie Boman provided copyediting and Danielle Nasenbeny reference editing. Danielle provided the second round; in this case the client requested proofreading only. The report required careful attention to technical terminology, policy recommendations, and source integrity to maintain credibility and readability. Both rounds had tight deadlines.

Approach

The scope included one round each for editing and proofreading Climate Security in Central America, a workshop proceedings from the National Academies Climate Security Roundtable, created to advise the U.S. Intelligence Committee. Given the high-stakes nature of the content — covering climate-driven migration, security risks, and U.S. intervention strategies — precision and clarity were essential.

Result

We delivered both rounds on time, meeting rigorous editorial standards for government and policy audiences. Our thorough yet efficient workflow ensured that the document was clear, precise, and ready for distribution to key stakeholders.
